Download PDF for this date

Seven Jews were elected to the Canadian Parliament in the Canadian general election yesterday, one more than in 1972. But David Lewis, leader of the New Democratic Party, was beaten in an upset in his Toronto district. Simma Holt, a member of Premier Elliott Trudeau’s Liberal Party, was elected a new member of Parliament from Vancouver. Other Jewish MPs elected are Jack Marshall of Newfoundland; Barney Danson, Robert Kaplan, Herb Cray and Max Saltzman in Ontario; and David Orilow in Winnipeg.
