Dr. Heinrich Spetter’s appeal against the death sentence imposed on him by the Sofia district court was heard yesterday, as had been scheduled, but its outcome is not yet known. It was learned today from the Bulgarian capital that the appeal court will only make its decision public in three or four days. Meanwhile, the 53-year-old Jewish economist charged with espionage remains in the condemned cell. His case is causing grave concern all over the world, and Amnesty International is still trying to establish contact with the Bulgarian head of state, Todor Zhivkov.
