Moshe Dayan told a large gathering of leading Johannesburg personalities at a meeting sponsored by the South African Foundation last night that Israel is confident of overcoming its problems. “Israelis know their objectives. We are ready to live with our problems for years and years,” the former Defense Minister said. He affirmed that Israel wants peace and stated that he did not expect a new war in the near future.
Earlier in a radio interview he said be was happy to accept the South African Foundation’s invitation to him and his wife, Rachel, to make what he termed his “look-see” tour of South Africa. “People in Israel feel friendly toward South Africa.” he said. “We have friendly relations with your government and the South African people and we think very highly of your Jewish community.” Dayan arrived here last Thursday as a guest of the South African Foundation. His wife arrived earlier last week.
Mrs. Charlotte Jacobson, chairman of the American Section of the World Zionist Organization, who paid a brief visit to South Africa to address Zionist conferences, told the press she was confident that American friendship and support of Israel would continue under President Ford who, she said, has a record of “long and strong ties with Israel.”
