More than 25,000 Americans–Jews and non-Jews–are expected to take part in a demonstration “against Arab terror” at noon Monday. Nov. 4. at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza outside the United Nations it was reported here today. Rabbi Israel Miller, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, declared at a press conference that the demonstration, to take place the same week as the debate on the Palestine Question in the General Assembly, was called to protest “and to express outrage at the obscene act” of inviting the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to the United Nations and at the same time “to voice solidarity with the embattled people of Israel.”
According to Rabbi Miller, thousands of demonstrators will arrive from all over the country, among them organized groups from cities such as Boston, Washington and Philadelphia. “The Hebrew day schools will suspend classes that day,” he said, adding that the rally will bring together “young and old people, white collar and blue collar workers, Jews and non-Jews.”
PEACEFUL, NON-VIOLENT RALLY
Rabbi Miller stressed that although the issue is “emotional” the rally is going to be peaceful and non-violent. He disclosed that the NY City Hall and the American Mission to the UN have been informed about the planned massive demonstration. Rabbi Miller reiterated the Presidents Conference’s “gratification” with the negative U.S. vote at the General Assembly last week on the invitation of the PLO. The Assembly voted by 105-4 to recognize the PLO as the representative of the Palestinian people and invited it to address the General Assembly during the debate on the Palestine Question.
