The Deputy Director General of UNESCO, Richard Hoggart, said here today that the organization’s Director General intends to raise the matter of the anti-Israeli resolutions at the next Executive Council. Hoggart added, however, that as far as he could see “it is doubtful whether the Council will be able to change the policy and adopt a compromise solution as has been suggested by the former Director General Rene Maheu.”

Hoggart, who was addressing a special conference of the Dutch UNESCO Committee, said that there is no precedent of any committee or other body annulling a General Assembly resolution. The Deputy Director General, a British national added that though views on the resolutions differ among the members of the UNESCO Secretariat staff “nobody has resigned” over this issue.
