The leadership of Anglo-Jewry is persisting in its fight against the Arab boycott against Israel, A delegation of the Board of Deputies of British Jews met Secretary of State for Trade Peter Shore yesterday to protest the recent intensification of the Arab boycott in Britain against companies doing business with Israel, They told Shore that while appreciating that British firms seek trade with Arabs it was immoral and inimical to long-term British interests to succumb to Arab economic blackmail.

The delegation drew Shore’s attention to the Foreign Office’s advice to British firms seeking Arab trade to affirm notarized declarations of non-trade with Israel, thus appending the Foreign Office seal as if the Arab boycott was enjoying official British support, They met Shore after a previous meeting with Premier Harold Wilson.

They deplored unwarranted Arab interference in British affairs, noting cases of British firms being dictated to by Arab investors on employment policy. They charged that Britain’s trade with Israel had thereby declined, Shore reiterated government opposition to any boycott.
