Majority of Israelis Support Government’s Suspension of Talks

The majority of Israelis support the government’s stand on the suspension of the Kissinger talks, a recent survey, conducted by the Institute of Applied Social Science and by the Communications Institute of the Hebrew University, shows, Some 80 percent of the respondents interviewed by the institutions said they were in complete agreement, or “agreement” with the government’s stand. Some 14 percent said they were not altogether in agreement, and six percent said they did not agree with the government. Despite the suspension of the talks, most Israelis expressed confidence in continued American political assistance to Israel. Some 77 percent of the interviewees said the U.S. would help Israel “greatly” or “somewhat,” However, 24 percent expressed pessimism, fearing that the U.S. would harm Israel, “somewhat,” or “greatly,”
