JERUSALEM (May. 28)
Foreign Minister Yigal Allon departed for Rumania yesterday on an official visit reciprocating the visit paid to Israel last September by the Rumanian Foreign Minister George Macovescu. Allon will be in Rumania until the beginning of next week. He is scheduled to meet with President Nicolae Ceausescu and other government leaders and will visit the Bucharest Jewish community Friday night.
Before taking off from Ben Gurion Airport, Allon denied reports that he would meet with Soviet representatives while in Rumania. He said that if the Russians wanted to resume diplomatic ties with Israel they would not have to do it through a third country. He also denied that he intended to meet any Arab leader during his Rumanian sojourn and said he had received no hints that President Ceausescu is interested in mediating the Middle East conflict. Allon said he would welcome a Rumanian initiative to change the negative Arab policy toward Israel.
