The top leader- ship of Likud met today and again called for a referendum or a new election before the government gives up any territory in the Sinai. The opposition group again repeated its claim that the government of Premier Yitzhak Rabin has no mandate to relinquish territory without getting a treaty of peace or nonbelligerency in return.
Likud leaders said that the negotiations since the arrival of Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger have borne out their worst fears. They charged that the interim agreement with Egypt in the Sinai would leave Israel in a dangerous position and would lead to more American pressure on Israel.
GOLAN SETTLERS OPPOSE WITHDRAWAL
Meanwhile, settlers on the Golan Heights met today at Ramat Magshimin and demanded the government reiterate its position that Israel will not withdraw from any territory on the Golan. The settlers said to even give up one settlement on the Golan would lead to the abandonment of all Jewish settlements there. Last week Defense Minister. Shimon Peres tried to calm their fears in a visit to the area by saying the settlements would not be evacuated.
However, the settlers’ fears have increased since the return of Secretary of State Henry. A. Kissinger from Damascus and reports that he favored a second-stage interim agreement between Israel and Syria.
