The Jewish Defense League charged today that the National Conference on Soviet Jewry’s denial that it had barred the JDL from participating in the World Conference on Soviet Jewry next month was deliberately misleading. The denial, by Jerry Good-man, executive director of the NCSJ, was published in the Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s Daily News Bulletin yesterday.

According to Dov Fisch, the JDL’s associate director, the NCSJ was trying “to write the JDL out of history by refusing to recognize its right to exist” and resorted to misleading statements to escape “the wrath of the Jewish community.”

Fisch said that “further action” will be taken if the NCSJ “refuses to clearly state its position on JDL attendance at Brussels.” He said the JDL was calling on the Jewish community “to take whatever action necessary” to show the NCSJ “that the JDL represents the will of the Jewish community.” He added, “If the leadership does not lead, the people will surely respond.”
