The creation of a Palestine Liberation Organization-controlled state on the West Bank would endanger both Israel and Jordan, according to Chaim Herzog, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations. “It would be a suicidal act for Israel to agree to the establishment of a PLO state,” he declared.

Herzog’s remarks were made in an interview for the local WABC-TV program “Accent On.” The Jewish Telegraphic Agency attended the taping for the two-part show which was shown on Channel 7 here today and Feb. 8 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. The program is produced in cooperation with the New York Board of Rabbis.

The Israeli envoy noted that the West Bank and Gaza were under Arab control from 1947-67 and there was not one move to create a Palestinian state during that time. He said the Palestinian state is a new “gimmick” that has been introduced in the last three or four years. The root of the problem is the Arab refusal to accept the existence of Israel Herzog stressed.
