Peter B. Bensinger of Chicago was sworn in Monday as head of the Drug Enforcement Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice. The U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed him Feb. 5. Before entering the division, which seeks to control traffic in illicit drugs throughout the United States, Bensinger served for seven years in Illinois in posts involving virtually all elements of that state’s criminal justice system. Bensinger, 39, is a director of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the regional board of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He received the Young Leadership Award in 1969 from the Jewish Federation and Welfare Fund of Metropolitan Chicago. He graduated from Yale in 1958 and is also a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy.
