Mifgash Jerusalem, an 18-day Salute to Aliya Through the Arts, will be held in Jerusalem from Aug. 7-24. According to Mrs. Miriam Eliav, United States coordinator of Mifgash, more than 300 artists in all fields of art, including dance, fine arts and film will be displaying their work.
“The concept of Mifgash Jerusalem,” Mrs. Eliav explained, “is to create a gala, festive event which will bring together new and old immigrants with tourists. Hopefully this will lead to a better understanding of the feelings about aliya that one doesn’t read in headlines. What better means of communication than the arts?”
The aims of Mifgash Jerusalem, which has gained enthusiastic support are: to help new immigrants in any art field to gain socially and financially; to open the lines of communication between new and more established olim; to show the positive sides of Israel and aliya; to showcase the accomplishment of the past 50 years, and most of all to re-emphasize Jewish solidarity.
One hundred exhibit pavilions will be constructed for the event highlighting such fields as arts and crafts, archaeology, publications, industry dance, music, education, native cuisine and film. Co-sponsors of the 18-day event include the municipality of Jerusalem.
