Ari Rath, editor of the Jerusalem Post, asserted today that “Washington is moving slowly and clearly toward an imposed settlement in the Middle East.” But Rath, at the end of a three-week visit in this country, during which he met with American officials, said that this “imposed settlement” will take longer to implement in case a Democratic President is elected.

Rath, who addressed a press conference at the United Jewish Appeal headquarters, also charged Washington with a “deliberate attempt to drive a wedge between Israel and American Jewry.” He said that Israelis are being privately warned by American officials saying, “Israelis, you better be careful. American Jews are getting tired of you.” Rath warned, however, that the more Washington will be “leaning on Israel” the less the Arabs will be willing to compromise.
