A team of scientists at the Hebrew University and the University of Pennsylvania have developed a more efficient method of controlling smog. The method, proposed by Prof. Julian Heicklen, who worked with both universities, is reported to cost only one percent of the expense of other systems now in use in the United States.

The new system calls for the diffusion into the atmosphere of minute quantities of a chemical called di-ethyl-hydroxyl-amine which prevents the formation of oxidents in the air. Smog, which is prevalent in areas of strong sunshine and heavy motor traffic such as Los Angeles, has begun to appear in Jerusalem.
