Special prayers for Jewish war dead were recited last night at “Memorial Day” ceremonies in the crypt of Mardasson where Allied personnel who died in the Battle of the Bulge are buried. The Belgian army’s Chief Jewish chaplain Pinhas Kalenberg, recited kaddish for the Jewish GIs in the presence of Prince Albert of Belgium, the King’s brother, the American Ambassador to Belgium and members of the government.

One of the walls of the crypt, located on the site of the Bastogne battle, is devoted to the Jewish war dead and is decorated with a huge menorah. A special section devoted to American army Jewish personnel killed in action was opened in the Bastogne Historical Center yesterday.
