Gen. Ariel Sharon, the Yom Kippur War hero, will meet with Democratic Presidential nominee Jimmy Carter in Washington late tomorrow afternoon, it was announced today by Carter headquarters here. Sharon commanded Israeli troops who crossed the Suez Canal and was, until last year, a special advisor on defense matters to Premier Yitzhak Rabin.
Sharon was quoted by Carter headquarters as saying that he “greatly looks forward to the opportunity to meet a representative of a new generation of leadership and a new spirit in the U.S.” He added, according to a Carter release that “Jimmy Carter symbolizes in my view the basic, healthy and solid elements of a new epoch in the U.S. It is my hope that Israel herself will be blessed with the phenomenon of Carterism.”
Sharon, who founded the Likud opposition party in Israel sharply criticized the Ford Administration in a speech to the 79th annual convention of the Zionist Organization of America here last weekend. He charged that the Admin- istration has not provided Israel with the critical aid necessary for its survival and further more, he alleged, was engaged in a major misrepresentation of its policies in the Middle East to the American public.
