Swastikas and anti-Jewish slogans have been painted on the wall of a barracks at Malines, near Brussels, close to a memorial plaque to 26,000 Jews who were confined there while awaiting deportation to the Nazi death camps during World War II. The graffiti were daubed outside the barracks shortly before an annual pilgrimage there in memory of the victims last Sunday. Speakers recalled how Belgian citizens saved the lives of over 20,000 Jews during the occupation.
