Koor, the Histadrut-owned industrial enterprise, has completed, together with another Israeli and an Iranian firm, construction of a jetty is the Iranian Persian Gulf port of Bandar-Shahpur, which will lower the waiting time for Israeli ships unloading Israeli products in Iran.
Imports have increased so much in Iran that the harbors are congested, causing delays of up to three months for ships to be unloaded. The new jetty will enable a ship carrying 80 containers to be unloaded within 48 hours, which means the waiting time will have a minimum effect on cost and Israeli goods will be better able to compete on the Iranian market.
Koor and its subsidiaries are operating extensively in Iran. Meir Amit. Koor’s director general, visited Iran recently to inspect the construction of a plant for fertilizers and anti-pest material as well as a central office for marketing Israeli prefabricated industrial and home buildings and industrial chemicals.
Another subsidiary of Koor is in Iran to help plan, advise and manage agricultural projects. Among the projects this company has completed this year are the setting up of irrigation networks, sugar beet plantations, cattle farms and an institute for marketing milk products.
