Gen. (Res.) Ariel Sharon, head of the new ShlomZion movement, has urged Israel to accept a proposal by President Anwar Sadat of Egypt to reconvene the Geneva conference with the participation of a “united Arab delegation.” Sharon, who severed his ties with Likud last month and announced that his new faction would seek Knesset seats in next year’s election, told foreign newsmen here that Israel should negotiate with any Arab factions, including the Palestine Liberation Organization.
A united Arab delegation at Geneva would include PLO representatives but would allow Israel to maintain its policy of refusing to negotiate with the PLO as such. Sharon said he believed a settlement could be worked out in Geneva in two stages–an end to the state of belligerency to be followed by a contractual peace agreement.
