Sen. James Abourezk (D. SD), the Senate’s most active spokesman for pro-Arab viewpoints since the departure of J. William Fulbright two years ago, announced his retirement from the Senate when his term expires January, 1979. Abourezk said at a news conference in Sioux Falls, S.D., that he is leaving the Senate and will not seek re-election because he wants to be closer to his family.
