The cultural committee of the Central Jewish Committee here has announced the first six winners of its new annual literary prize named after its late president, Fernando Jeno. Poet Jacob Glantz of Mexico and Samuel Rollansky of Argentina, received the Jeno Award for Yiddish literature; Michael Levin of Mexico and Shamay Golan of Jerusalem, for Hebrew books; and Heszel Klepfish of Panama and Jose Rabinovitch of Argentina for works in Spanish.
Glantz will receive an honorary degree and a medal for his long literary and cultural activities in the Mexican Jewish community. Rollansky received $2000 for his three volumes about Yiddish literature. Levin, who won the award for his Hebrew stories for children and Golan for his short Hebrew novels, each received $500. Klepfish, who has done studies in Spanish on Judaism, and Rabinovitch, for his Spanish poetry, will also receive $500 each. The awards, which were established by Jeno’s widow and children, will be presented March 29.
