Some 1500 Hadassah branches throughout the U.S. will soon set up local aliya committees, World Zionist Organization Executive chairman Yosef Almogi told the Zionist Executive at its weekly session. He said that at the same time, six new aliya centers will open in major American cities, in addition to a large-scale pilgrimage to Israel project that was decided on in principle.

Almogi said that these projects were the outcome of initial efforts by Zionist Executive member Mordechai Bar On who recently left for a special aliya mission in the U.S. The pilgrimage project will be carried out in cooperation with the New York Board of Rabbis. According to reports received from Bar On in Jerusalem, local philanthropists expressed willingness to contribute money to fund the pilgrimage project.

Avraham Shenker, head of the WZO organization and information department, reported at the Zionist Executive session that a “membership project” has been launched world-wide in order to enlarge the ranks of the Zionist movement in preparation for the 29th Zionist Congress.
