The Washington State legislature has approved a bill prohibiting compliance with the Arab boycott of Israel. The bill was approved in the state capital at Olympic on June I and Gov. Dixie Lee Ray is expected to sign it into law later this month, making Washington the ninth state in the U.S. to adopt anti-boycott legislation. The move follows the unanimous passage of an anti-boycott resolution by the Seattle City Council on May 18.
David Stahl, regional director of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, pointed out that both actions were the result of promptings by the local Jewish community. “This legislation will hopefully encourage the business community to avoid participation in the boycott,” Stahl said.
