Grigory Chudnovsky, considered one of the most brilliant mathematicians in the Soviet Union, and his parents and brother have received permission to emigrate to Israel, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry said it learned today according to reports arriving here from the USSR. The family who had been denied permission to emigrate, as recently as last April, had been the subject of recent attacks and harassment, according to the NCSJ. Grigory Chudnovsky’s plight has been the subject of international concern, following reports from his parents that he is dying of a debilitating nerve disease known as myasthenia gravis. The NCSJ said it learned through reports that the Swiss drug necessary for treatment of the disease is not available in the Soviet Union.
