Premier Menachem Begin will pay an official visit to Britain later this year, it was officially announced here last night. The precise timing is still to be set, but officials said both governments wanted the visit as soon as conveniently possible after the Jewish holidays. British Premier James Callaghan’s invitation was submitted to Begin last Wednesday by British Ambassador John Mason.

Israeli officials are especially pleased by this development. They recall that Begin’s visit to Britain in the early 1970s was marred by some bad press and public opinion comments pertaining to his record as Irgun leader in pre-State days (when he was the British Mandatory police’s prime target and a high price was put on his head).
