Pope Paul IV, who had himself paid a history-making visit to Jerusalem in 1964, said today in Vatican City that President Anwar Sadat’s visit to Israel signaled the end of 30 years of war. Pope Paul told pilgrims assembled in Saint Peter’s Square for his usual Sunday blessing: “One theme dominates our spirit today. It is the sign of peace which has appeared in the Middle East. The Egyptian leader is today warmly welcomed in Israel. An intermittent war for 30 years is thus ended, and peace perhaps is blossoming again in a region which is sadly strategic in the world.”

There will be no Bulletin dated Nov. 24 due to Thanksgiving, a postal holiday.
