Secretary of State Cyrus Vance left Israel today for Jordan saying he was very much encouraged by the talks he had with Israeli leaders during his 36-hour visit to Jerusalem. “The government of Israel is dedicated to the cause of peace and is working energetically toward that goal,” he told reporters at Ben Gurion Airport.
Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan, who was at the airport to see Vance off, expressed hope that he would have constructive talks with the leaders of the other Arab countries he will be visiting on his current Middle East tour. “We are very happy about our talks and the message Vance brought from Egypt,” Dayan said. He added: “The dialogue will go on until we reach final peace treaties with all Arab countries and this will be with the help of our American friends.” (See related story.)
