Jack Marshall, a 58-year-old member of Canada’s House of Commons and a retail merchant from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, was among seven new members named to the Canadian Senate. His appointment brings the number of Jewish members in the Senate to five. Though named by a Liberal government, Marshall has sat as a Progressive Conservative since his election in 1968 and has been that party’s only Jewish M.P. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Marshall served in World War II, retiring as a captain in the Canadian army.
