Michael Kuehnen, 23, self-proclaimed “fuehrer” of a small extreme rightwing German group called the National Socialist Action Front, has been arrested on a warrant issued by the Federal Supreme Court on suspicion of setting up a terrorist organization. This move comes only one week after Kuehnen was released from custody in Flensburg, north Germany, where he had been held following a violent clash between police and neo-Nazis July 22.
According to reports here, 10 other rightwing extremists are also being held for questioning on suspicion of supporting terrorism. Reports say the increasing seriousness with which rightist (usually anti-Semitic, too) activities are officially regarded is shown by the fact that their names are kept on the same register nowadays as those of better-known leftwing terrorists such as the internationally-sought “Carlos.” Kuehnen, a former army officer, was dismissed a year ago from an army training center because of his rightwing activities.
