Rabbi Alexander Schindler, immediate past chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, has denied that he accepted a request from Premier Menachem Begin to coordinate public relations efforts of Jewish organizations in the United States for Israel.

Schindler told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that reports in Israel that he has accepted are inaccurate. He said the subject was discussed by him and Begin but that no decision was taken by either one. “It’s a possibility,” Schindler said, “but the discussion never came to any conclusion.”

He said he indicated to Begin that he would be “glad to help” in this area but this depended on a number of factors, not the least of which is the reaction of the Jewish organizations with which he would have to work. So far as the need for good public relations activity for Israel in this country, Schindler said: “It certainly needs doing.”
