Mrs. Geertruida Wijsmuller, who helped rescue Jewish refugees, mainly children, before and during World War II, died here last Wednesday at the age of 82. Beginning in November, 1938, Mrs. Wijsmuller, who was not Jewish, worked closely with the Dutch Jewish Committee for the assistance of Jewish refugees. She arranged the departure of several hundred Jewish children aboard the last ship that sailed from Holland for England before the Nazi invasion of The Netherlands. She was credited with saving close to 10,000 Jewish children in similar manner.
