Nathan Nurgetz, a 43-year-old Winnipeg lawyer, has been appointed to the Canadian Senate by Prime Minister Joe Clark. He was formerly president of the Progressive Conservative Association of Canada. This appointment makes Nurgetz the sixth Jewish Senator. The others are Davic Croll, Carl Goldenberg, Sidney Buck-world, Jack Austin and Jack Marshall. Nurgetz has 32 years to serve until he reaches the retirement age of 75. Heath MacQuarrie, 59, of Prince Edward Island, an outspoken advocate of Arab causes, was also appointed to the Senate. A Progressive Conservative Party member, he was in the House of Commons.
