An emergency assembly in solidarity with Falashas, the Jews of Ethiopia, was held here several days ago at Stern College. The assembly was called to coincide with demonstrations held in Jerusalem by the small Falasha community in Israel. Dr. Graenum Berger, executive vice president of the American Association for Ethiopian Jews, and Rabbi Hailu Paris, spiritual leader of Congregation Mount Horeb, said the Jewish world in general and the Israeli government in particular are neglecting the desperate plight of the fast-disappearing Falashas of Ethiopia. Their immediate rescue through mass aliya was held out their only hope.
The assembly heard excerpts of recent letters from slews in Ethiopia describing the destruction of whole villages and the massacre and enslavement of many Jews. A memorial service on behalf of the murdered Falashas was conducted by Rabbi Irving Block of the Brotherhood Synagogue.
