Interior Minister Albano Harguindegui denied that there is any kind of official anti-Semitism in Argentina and declared that Argentine Jewry enjoys “a climate of absolute liberty.” Addressing a Rotary Club luncheon, Gen Harguindegui charged that international terrorism is behind claims that anti-Semitic trends exist in the country in order “to damage, by all possible means the image of our country abroad.” He said that Argentine Jews “identify themselves absolutely with all our problems and hopes and join in our struggle, celebrating our triumphs and regretting our failures.
