Representatives of the Synagogue Council of America joined with Protestant and Catholic clergy at a White House breakfast last Thursday with President Carter in connection with their Conference on Religion and Energy in the 1980s. The purpose of the conference is to give religious leaders an opportunity to discuss the roles institutions should play in solving the energy crisis and to agree on joint action.

At a press conference later, Rabbi Bernard Mandelbaum, executive vice president of the Synagogue Council of America, and Rabbi David Saperstein, chairman of the Interfaith Coalition on Energy, joined the participants in discussing aspects of the energy crisis, including conservation, the plight of the poor and renewable sources of energy.
