Israel’s Davis Cup hopes faded over the weekend when its team suffered two straight defeats at the hands of Swiss players, effectively eliminating it from the tournament. Israel lost the first set by a 4-1 score. Former American star Steve Kruelvitz, Israel’s great hope, disappointed his fans when he was beaten 3-1 by 20-year-old Roland Stodler of Switzerland in a three-hour match.
