Egyptian President Anwar Sadat confirmed today he had asked President Carter for urgent steps to prevent a deadlock on the autonomy talks for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. The White House announced yesterday that President Carter will meet separately with Sodat and Premier Menachem Begin of Israel in Washington in April.

Sodat made the disclosure after a plenary session dealing with the autonomy talks at The Hague on Feb. 28-29 ended with no report of significant progress. Sadat expressed the hope that the separate meetings with Carter might lead to another summit meetings in which Carter, Sodat and Begin would participate. Sodat mode the comments in talking to reporter in Cairo, which included the Israeli correspondents now reporting from Egypt. Moariv said Sadat told its reporter in Cairo that he was convinced no autonomy accord would be reached without new guidelines to him and Begin.
