Rash Hashanah shoppers in Israel are finding markets and stores stocked with every conceivable type of food necessary for the High Holy Days. But many shoppers, while beguiled by the wide variety of food, are finding it hard to pay the prices, which have soared in recent days. Fish is replacing poultry as the holiday fare because it is cheaper, and expensive wines are bypassed for ordinary kiddush wine.
