TEL AVIV (Oct. 5)
Three persons were killed and six injured when a booby-trapped package exploded in a post office in Givatayim, near Tel Aviv early this morning. Two of the injured are in serious condition. The Palestine Liberation Organization claimed responsibility for the outrage, but unlike previous incidents, its radio station in Damascus did not identify a specific group but only said it was committed by “Palestinian worriers.”
There were 10 customers in the post office and four clerks when the blast went off at 8 AM shattering the counter and windows. The roof fell in on those inside. The few people who managed to get outside called for help and within minutes the police and ambulances had evacuated the casualties.
Following the incident, police reminded Israelis to take precautions when receiving parcel post packages in suspicious containers or from unknown persons.
Meanwhile, in Yavneh, south of Tel Aviv, police dismantled an explosive device. They later arrested two Arabs from the Gaza Strip in Jaffa who were believed to have prepared the device.
