A leading Canadian industrialist and philanthropist, Isin Ivanier of Montreal, received an honorary doctorate from the Haifa Technion “in recognition of his accomplishments in the steel industry and in appreciation of his support for the Technion.”
The doctorate was conferred on Ivanier in the presence of Canadian Ambassador Joseph Stanfield, Israel’s Minister of Energy, Yitzhak Modai, members of the Technion Board of Governors and representatives of the faculty and student body. Ivanier has donated a laboratory for advanced research in cutting and welding to the Technion.
In his acceptance speech he noted that the enormous progress made by Israel’s industry would have been “unthinkable without the Technion.” Honored on the same occasion with doctoral degrees in science were Jacob Walter Ullman, president of the American Technion Society and Dr. Avraham Suldami, a leading Israeli manufacturer of medical instruments.
