The Malta authorities have refused to allow an Israeli cargo ship to enter Valetta harbor for repairs after a fire at sea, and has refused to extend the visas of sailors from the vessel. The Israeli vessel, Lior, caught fire at sea two weeks ago and was towed to Malta, where her cargo of citrus, bound for Britain and unharmed by the fire, was due to have been discharged for trans-shipment. But the Maltese authorities refused to allow her to enter the harbor, on the grounds that the fire might break out again. The stricken vessel was accordingly towed to Marseilles, where its cargo was discharged for local sale.
