Israel’s Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi, Shlomo Goren, will meet with President Reagan in Washington late this afternoon. But Premier Menachem Begin’s office has firmly denied that Goren is on a political “mission” or is bringing Reagan a political “message” from Begin.

The denial was issued after Israeli radio and television correspondents in Washington said last night that Begin had assigned Goren to engage in a special political dialogue with Reagan. Uri Porat, Begin’s press spokesman, said today that Begin had simply briefed Goren on current issues after the Chief Rabbi informed him that a meeting with Reagan had been set up. The Premier gave Goren no message or mission, Porat said.
