Six Israeli civilians and a woman soldier were injured by a hand grerade in the main square of Gaza yesterday. The area was sealed off while Israeli troops searched for the perpetrators. According to reports, the grenade was hurled at a van driven by a civilian in which the soldier was a passenger. The five other civilians hurt apparently were bystanders.
Meanwhile, the army lifted its 40-day blockade of the four Druze villages on the Golan Heights, claiming that most of the residents have accepted Israeli identity cards and could now move freely. But the general strike by the Druze, protesting Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, continued into its eighth week today.
Many Druze who took Israeli identity cards reportedly tore them up immediately. Others used them to take their cattle to pasturage outside the villages. But most Golan Druze employed in Israel continued to stay away from their jobs.
