The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) has chosen Ricardo Barbouth of Argentina as president of its newly-formed South American Federation of Liberal Congregations, it was announced this week by Gerard Daniel, WUPJ president. Barbouth, a Buenos Aires businessman, is a vice president of that city’s Temple Emanuel. He has long been active in Jewish communal life in Argentina and was instrumental in developing a successful Liberal Jewish-youth camp there. The WUPJ recently launched a campaign to strengthen its ties to Reform synagogues in Argentina, Brazil and Chile through the establishment of a South American Feder ation of Liberal Congregations.
