The head of the Uruguayan Jewish community, Nahum Bergstein, assured Premier Menachem Begin of his community’s strong support for Israel over “Operation Peace for Galiee.”
Bergstein called on the Premier at his office in Jerusalem, escorted by World Zionist organization officials. He said his fellow Jews in Uruguay follow the progress of the war closely and their view is that Israel had to act as it did in order to protect its northern settlements.
