A bomb explosion injured one man in the Old City of Jerusalem last night. Two Israelis were injured in stone-throwing incidents on the West Bank today and several students at A-Najah University in Nablus were arrested, resulting in a boycott of classes for the day.
The Jerusalem bomb injured a sanitation worker who had picked a suspicious-looking parcel out of a garbage can and was examining it when it exploded. The incident occurred near Zedekiah’s tomb inside the old walled city, A dozen suspects were taken into custody for questioning.
Israelis were injured when stones were hurled at them in Ramallah and at the Daheisha refugee camp south of Bethlehem. Israeli vehicles were stoned in El Bireh near Ramallah. Border police dispersed student demonstrators at the Haj Maazuz At Masri school in Nablus. Students in A-Najah were arrested for taking part in celebrations at the university commemorating the founding of El Fatah.
The incidents on the West Bank followed a night of slogan daubing in the territory and in East Jerusalem. The slogans, attributed to Arab extremists, denounced the recent meetings between King Hussein of Jordan and PLO chief Yasir Arafat aimed at eventual peace talks with Israel.
