A high-ranking Egyptian official on a formal visit to Nigeria has told the country’s rulers that they and other Black African countries should not re-establish diplomatic relations with Israel, the World Jewish Congress reported Wednesday. Egypt’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Butros Ghali, was reported to have pressed this view on the Nigerian government during his visit there last week, according to a broadcast of the domestic service of Radio Nigeria. Ghali was quoted as saying that Egypt was using a “carrot” in its efforts to bring about Middle East peace and that Nigeria could use the “stick.”
