Some 200 residents of the western suburb of Herzlia, just north of Tel Aviv, were evacuated from their homes in the early morning hours when a firein the town’s industrial zone sent toxic fumes into their homes.

The blaze in a chemical warehouse was quickly brought under control, but the fumes led the municipality to decide to move residents away. They were housed temporarily in the nearby Sharon Hotel on the Herzlia beach.

The residents were allowed back home this morning, but two beaches have been temporarily closed because toxic wasts, swept down by the water used to put out the blaze, may have temporarily contaminated the beaches.
