TEL AVIV (Jul. 11)
Howard Washington, the first BlackMayor of Chicago, arrived in Israel today on a six-day visit as the guest of the Foreign Ministry. Washington, who has long been a firm friend of Israel, will meet President Chaim Herzog and Prime Minister Shimon Peres during his stay here.
He will also tour the holy places in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Galilee, and will attend the opening of the Maccabiah on Monday, before going on to Rome on Wedensday for an interview with the Pope. While in Israel, Washington will meet with former Chicagoans now resident in Israel.
